Brookings: "We present evidence from a new survey experiment that information about the LDS church and Mr. Romney's affiliation with it poses little threat to his electoral prospects, even among evangelical Christians. In fact, messages about Romney's religion may even boost his
support among conservatives." 
Politico:  "Another pair of GOP primaries in rock-ribbed red states - Texas on May 29 and Utah on June 26 - will further test the strength of the tea party movement that helped deliver the House to Republicans in 2010 and has roiled the party ever since."
Miami Herald:  "Gov. Rick Scott's top advisor arranged $5 million no-bid contract in Senate.  The governor's chief of staff, Steve MacNamara, used his Senate clout to sign a contract for a web-based
budget system developed by the business partner of a friend." 
Politico:  "Romney would do well to have a wing man who can astutely explain the flaws in President Barack Obama's policies. There are many attractive prospects out there, but Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal can do not just all that, he has already implemented the sort of bold reforms at the state level that are now desperately needed at the federal level." 

Omaha World Herald:  "The state senator from Valentine...started to surge in the polls at the perfect time - early enough to win and too late for her opponents to respond.  Fischer, who raised a paltry $440,000 to front-runner Jon Bruning's $3.6 million, is now in position to become the second woman ever elected to the U.S. Senate from Nebraska."

Cap Times:  "A detailed analysis of the 4,400 entries in Walker's calendar by the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism paints a portrait of a public relations-minded governor who focuses his message on receptive, conservative audiences and who, as the effort to recall him has intensified has spent a sharply decreasing amount of time on official state business."

Politico:  "As the Obama campaign began a concerted attack on the presumptive GOP nominee for his tenure at the private equity firm he managed, strategists in both parties say the Republican has yet to give a confident, detailed explanation of his Bain Capital tenure that silences questions about his biography as a businessman."
NYT:  "Want to guarantee a campaign throwdown? Toss 2 major American cities, 2 large minority populations and 15 candidates into one newly drawn Congressional district.  The primary battle in Congressional District 33, a horizontal swath that spans Dallas and Fort Worth, has the makings of a political circus."

Journal-Sentinel:  "Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett accused Gov. Scott Walker of attempting to ‘cook the books' to make Wisconsin's economy look better than it is by releasing new jobs figures this week in advance of the June 5 recall election."

WashPost:  "As he gears up his reelection effort, Obama is trying to win the political support of veterans and military families in a handful of important swing states.  It is a bold attempt to cut into a traditionally Republican constituency, one the GOP won't concede without a fight."

TEA PARTY LINKED TO HARASSMENT, INTIMIDATION, VIOLENCE

Recent news events directly link Tea Party protesters to harassment, intimidation and acts of violence against fellow Americans, including Members of Congress.  And still, as one columnist recently noted, "No Republican or conservative leader of stature has taken on Palin, Perry, Boehner or others" stoking the Tea Party fires.

 

These demagogic events have no place in American life and make our country weaker at the very time that we should be uniting as a country to solve our economic problems here at home as well as handling international threats in what is still a dangerous world.

 

Below is a brief sample of disturbing Tea Party activity across the United States.

 

  • Demonstrators outside US Capitol shout racial epithets at Congressman John Lewis, obscenities at other Members of Congressional Black Caucus.  Click here.

  • FBI investigates Virginia incident involving Congressman whose address was targeted by Tea Party activists angry over healthcare vote. Click here.

We believe it is our patriotic duty to protect the American Dream, strengthen national security and provide for the common good of all Americans. We also work independently to elect candidates who support these patriotic policies.

ON THIS DAY IN US HISTORY
On May 17, 1954, the US Supreme Court hands down a unanimous decision in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas. The landmark decision declares unconstitutional all state laws that racially segregate public schools. The decision overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson decision of 1896 which allowed state-sponsored segregation.
